PM to visit Italy to watch Paralympic games

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will visit Italy on Wednesday and Thursday to support Team Finland at the Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina, said an official press release on Monday.

Orpo is the first Finnish prime minister to watch the Paralympic Games in person, said the press release referring to the Finnish Paralympic Committee.

“I think it is important to support Team Finland in the Paralympics, just like in the Olympics. I’m excited to see whether Team Finland achieves its medal goals in these games,” Orpo said.

The Premier will watch cross-country skiing in Cortina on Wednesday and the giant slalom in Milan on Thursday.

This year, Team Finland consists of four competitors and a guide skier. Finland is competing in alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing.

The Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics will bring together a total of 665 athletes from more than 50 countries.
