Lions win bronze in Milan-Cortina Olympics

Finland won bronze in ice hockey at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics beating Slovakia by 6 goals to 1 on late Saturday night.

The Lions completely dominated over the Slovaks in the whole match, particularly in the third period when they scored four goals including two empty-netted.

Erik Haula scored two goals while Joel Armia, Sebastian Aho, Roope Hintz, and Kaapo Kakko scored one goal each for Finland to ensure the victory.

Tomas Tatar scored the lone goal for Slovakia.

Superstar Mikko Rantanen remained absent in the bronze medal game as he sustained a lower-body injury during the semi-finals with Canada.

Roope Hintz expressed the feelings of victory as great after the match.

"Yesterday, we were close to getting to the gold medal game, but we can’t change yesterday and I think it was great that we got the job done and won the bronze. It’s a big deal," reported International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), quoting Hintz as saying.

Finland won gold in ice hockey in Beijing Olympics 2022 but this year lost to Canada in the semi-finals by 3-2 after consuming a goal in the last minute of the match despite leading until 50th minute.

Canada will face USA in the final on Sunday.
