Finland scored sixth consecutive victory in the Ice Hockey World Championship 2026 beating Austria by 5 goals to 2 at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, Switzerland late Sunday night.
The Finns completely dominated over the Austrians during the whole match but lack of seriousness in the third period created scope for Austria to score two goals, although it did not put any impact on the match result.
Mikael Granlund scored the first goal at the end of first period followed by Saku Maenalanen, Jesse Puljujarvi and Sakari Manninen to take 4-0 lead for Finland at the end of the second period.
A misunderstanding by Finnish goaltender Justus Annunen with defence placement brought chance for Austria to reduce the gap 4-1 when Benjamin Nissner sent the puck to Finland´s net at early third period.
Although Patrik Puistola scored at the 48th minute and widened the gap 5-1, Leon Waller scored the second goal for Austria at 59th minute resulting end of the match 5-2.
In the previous five matches Finland beat Germany by 3-1, Hungary by 4-1, USA by 6-2, Latvia by 7-1 and Great Britain by 4-0.
