
Finland started Ice Hockey World Championship with a victory against Germany at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, Switzerland on Friday afternoon.
The Lions beat the Germans by 3 goals to 1 in their opening match.
A power play goal by Anton Lundell took lead for Finland at 9th minute of the match but the Lions had to wait until third period to widen the gap as the second period ended without any goal.
Although Jesse Puljujarvi scored the second goal during a power play at 44th minute and took 2-0 lead for Finland, Stefan Loibl scored the lone goal for Germany at 49th minute and reduced the gap.
Aatu Raty scored the third goal for Finland at the 56th minute to ensure the 3-1 victory for the country.
Finland will face Hungary in their second group match on Saturday.
Meanwhile, host Switzerland beat USA by 3-1, Canada beat Sweden by 5-3 and Czech Republic beat Denmark by 4-1 in their respective matches on the opening day.
