Former world number one and triple grand slam champion Angelique Kerber will take an advisor role at the German Tennis Federation (DTB) and share her knowledge with young talents and elite players, reported dpa.
The DTB said on Wednesday that from next year onwards Kerber will support the women's team at the Billie Jean King Cup and work with young female talents at training camps and tournaments.
DTB board member Veronika Rücker said the appointment of Kerber "fills us with pride and confidence.
"With her fighting spirit and great passion on the court, Angie has always been a shining example for young players, who can now benefit directly from her knowledge and experience," Rücker said.
Kerber, 36, won the 2016 Australian and US Open, and Wimbledon in 2018. She topped the WTA rankings for 34 weeks during her career she ended at this year's Paris Olympics.
"I am grateful for everything that tennis has given me and want to pass on my experience to the next generation. We have the common goal of bringing German women's tennis forward again,’ Kerber said.
