ISU GP Finlandia Trophy Helsinki opens

The ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy Helsinki opened in Finland on Friday, reported Xinhua.

Finlandia Trophy Helsinki is the sixth leg of the 2025-26 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. Friday's opening day featured the pairs and men's short programs, the women's short program and the rhythm dance.

In the pairs short program, Germany's Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin took the lead with 70.40 points.

Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea of the United States were second on 70.24, followed closely by compatriots Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov in third with 70.19 points. Zhang and Huang scored 62.42 points to sit seventh overnight.

Two-time European champion Adam Siao Him Fa of France topped the men's short program with 92.50 points. Canada's Stephen Gogolev ranked second on 89.35, while Japan's Yuma Kagiyama placed third with 88.16 points.

In the women's short program, American skater Amber Glenn, winner of the women's singles event at the 2025 Cup of China Grand Prix, led the field with 75.72 points. Japan's Mone Chiba was second on 72.89, and Canada's Madeline Schizas was third with 65.16 points.

In the rhythm dance, France's Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry took the first place with 79.89 points. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada followed in second on 79.56, while American duo Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik ranked third with 78.51 points.

Launched in 1995, the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating is an annual series comprising six legs plus a season-ending Final.

Skaters at Finlandia Trophy Helsinki are vying for qualification points for the Grand Prix Final, scheduled for December 4-7 in Nagoya, Japan.
