Finland on Thursday defeated South Korea by 3-1 in their last Pool C match to advance to the round of 16 at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in the Philippines.
The Finns finished pool runners-up on a two victory and one loss and will face Pool F winners Belgium for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Although Finland scored theirs second victory against the Korea (25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 25-21) in the morning, they had to wait for the result of the match between Argentina and France to ensure a place in the last 16.
The situation was like that Finland would advance with any result other than a French victory in the tie-breaker.
But finally Argentina beat reigning Olympic champion France in a five-set match and reached to the last 16 together with Finland.
The excellent performances by Luka Marttila and Joonas Jokela brought the victory for Finland against Korea, as Marttila topped all scorers with 25 points (22 kills, three blocks) and Jokela added another 21, with 17 kills, two aces and two blocks.
Earlier on Tuesday, Finland achieved a great victory against two-time Olympic champion France.
