The University of Helsinki received a total of 4175 applications for admission in the international master’s programmes this year, said the university in a press release on Wednesday.

Although the number of applicants fell significantly from the previous year, a higher proportion of applications were eligible and progressed to academic assessment.

The most popular of the 35 master’s programmes available was the Master’s Programme in Computer Science, with as many as 578 applications followed by Data Science with 545 applications and Environmental Change and Global Sustainability with 316 applications.

A total of 1416 new students were admitted to the programmes, which means that 34% of the applicants were offered a student place.

All applicants have been notified of the results by email.

Students admitted to the international master's programmes come from 83 countries.

Almost 79% of those admitted are from outside Finland and over 55% from non-EU and non-EEA countries.
